List of Terminology

Common terminology used across the Disqus network include:

Account: your registered personal account with Disqus — includes your username, email address, and password, as well as your avatar (optional) and full name (optional).

Avatar: an image representing a person. On Disqus, you can set a personal avatar for your account, as well as a default avatar on your forum for commenters without personal avatars.

Category: optional groups you can create within your forum to which threads can be assigned. Typically categories reflect your site's own categories. For example, if you run a news publication you might use categories such as Editorial and World News.

Forum: your site's own Disqus commenting system.

Full name: the name carried across the Disqus network on your profile and the name displayed with your comments. Full names do not have to be unique and can contain spaces.

Shortname: the unique name you chose for your forum.

Thread: a collection of comments associated with a page. Typically each page on your site has its own thread of comments.

Username: the name you use to login to Disqus.

Developer terminology

Payload: the value being passed via the remote_auth_s3 JavaScript variable on any Single Sign-On-enabled page.
